Communication Arts

Graduation Requirement of 4.0 credits. Language skills are essential to communicating via the spoken and written word. Students are exposed to a variety of classic authors, with a view towards increasing comprehension and the ability to write with clarity. A solid foundation in language skills helps buy students across all academic subjects. Students with poor skills are targeted for improving their weaknesses, while above average students will be challenged to perform to their God-given potential.
(Note: an 'A' designation after the course name means first semester of curriculum and 'B' indicates the second semester.)

Course List

ENG 021 GR7 - English 7 - A
Description In English 7 students will work through an integrated curriculum of spelling and vocabulary, basic grammar, reading comprehension, and writing fundamentals. Students will develop effective speaking and listening skills while they learn to recall sequential information. Students will also learn to express and justify ideas by using relevant support details while engaging with literature. These units are vital stepping stones for future learning. They are designed to create a strong foundation for high school writing, and they will introduce students to basic literary devices found in literature.

ENG 031 JH - English 8 - A
Description In English 8 students will build on their basic English skills in preparing themselves for successful high school writing, reading, speaking, and listening. Students will broaden their vocabulary skills and will be trained to comprehend their readings on a critical level. Students will review the basic rules of English grammar and usage as they learn to express and justify personal ideas as a result of engaging with literature. Students will be introduced to a variety of writing styles and will develop the skills necessary to present an effective presentation.
